In this article, we will explore the acronyms that are used widely in the world of cloud computing.
For each of them, we will also see some examples of (well) known providers or services that offer that specific part of cloud computing.
1. IAAS (Infrastructure As A Service)
This is the most basic and well known cloud building block. In this configuration the provider host full machines dedicated to the customer. Basically this is simply a kind of name rebranding for the hosting service. The customer is responsible for all the OS and software implementation.
2. PAAS (Platform As A Service)
In this kind of offer, the provider deliver “ready to go” bundle, generally including a web server, a DB and programming APIs. In this way the developers are ready to enter the core of the subject and don’t need to worry about system administration.
3. SAAS (Software As A Service)
This is the most high level of cloud computing business model. In this configuration the provider deliver the full stack including os, and pre-configured application. The customer only needs to worry about using the product, and not configuring it.
