The interest in cloud computing is growing since several years now. In a recent study by ServiceNew, « The 2016 Cloud Computing Tipping Point », more than 50% of the surveyed people declared that they are willing to choose a cloud solution instead of an on-premise IT room. Four persons out of five are stating that this choice will be made in the coming 2 years.

Scalable and flexible cloud solutions

Companies that choose cloud solutions are primarily looking for its scalability, the flexibility, the security and the effectiveness of this type of solutions, and the fact that their IT-team no longer needs to look after the management of the hardware, often a time-consuming preoccupation.

IT crucial for competitiveness

Another interesting point that comes out of this study, is that 75% of the respondents confirmed that the move to the cloud generated a new general focus on IT in the company. IT receives an increased weight in the global strategy of the company. Before the cloud, the IT was often regarded as a secondary priority, meaning "As long as it runs, why would we change?".
Today, companies directors are more and more aware that  their IT service is crucial for the competitiveness of their business, and asks for a huge amount of attention.

As a conclusion, 2 points can be identified coming out of this study:

  1. The cloud is providing a better visibility and predictability of the costs.
  2. The choice of the right cloud provider is crucial. "The cloud is like a marriage. It's when you divorce that it's gonna cost you most".
