In november, EASI organised an event around the theme "IT Security and Business Continuity". It was a perfect occasion for the participants to get to know a major player in the data security field: WatchGuard.

The main objective was not to present the different products of WatchGuard, but to explain how Watchguard, as a major IT security company, faces the different challenges linked to these issues.

WatchGuard explained us the everyday battle between hackers and constructors they are confronted with. It's because of this battle that WatchGuard is associated with others constructors/editors to be able to offer a state-of-the-art solution thoughout all security layers.

100% guarantee is impossible

An interesting point I appreciated was the reference they made to the famous car speed camera alerting app Coyote in their speech. "Our solutions are oriented towards 'prevention'. No single constructor/editor can guarantee 0% intrusions. It's a little bit like the Coyote alerting system. It can happen that the first car that passes, gets caught. The following cars will benefit from the alert service."

Warn your end users!

Another impotant point they mentioned was to focus on the communication towards your end users. Indeed, the problem is often situated between the chair and the screen. That's why we at EASI, for example, regularly send messages to our collaborators to repeat them that they have to stay cautious.  Not opening attachments in emails coming from sources you don't know, ... It might seem obvious, but its oh so important!

The importance of backups

Finally, WatchGuard also insisted on the importance of backups. In this context, we had the occasion to present our different existing solutions, but also new solutions that will be available soon!
