IBM TechU 2019 : Day 4

The last post I want to dedicate to two subjects related to security. Read on for my final blog.

Hello IBM i friends, for this last report of the IBM TechU 2019 at Prague I chose two subjects who are very relevant today in a security concern. The first one is:

IBMi and single sign on by Bartlomiej Grabowski

The Single Sing On by IBM runs all around Kerberos and EIM. It might seem to be a little heavy but it works as expected. What you need is :

  • A well configured Network : DNS, NTP, ....
  • LDAP
  • Kerberos as a Network authentication mechanism
  • EIM to link your Network identification to an IBMi identification
  • and ... configuration skills :-D

Despite all this, once implemented, there is no password needed to access the Telnet server or the Netserver!

The second subject I want to talk about is:

Integrating IBM i into SIEM systems by Thomas Barlen

The playground of security has changed some existing rules in IBM i security. This is not due to a lack in security for IBM i, but rather because Security Management and some regulations have stated that laggings need to be standardized and pulled out to other servers like SIEM systems.

Few of us know that there is an integrated SIEM demon into IBMi that is not activated by default.

With some program code or with the help of the IBM Lab Services your IBM, I can do this for you.

Thank for reading. This was my last report from IBM Prague. I hope you enjoyed reading these articles as much as I enjoyed to write them.

What now?

Do you want to discuss the topics in depth or found out more about the sessions? Then I warmly welcome you to attend our IBM Power Afterwork on 19/11/2019 in Nivelles and 26/11/2019 in Leuven. I hope to see you all there. This was Danny Simon reporting from IBM TechU 2019 at Prague.
