We are more than happy to have Frederick Verduyckt, Senior NSX Specialist at VMware, as a speaker during our Inspiration Day.  In his role at VMware, Frederick helps customers make the transition to a software-defined networking environment. His CISSP accreditation and two decades in networking & security makes him a trusted advisor in his field of expertise.

He was so kind to send us an abstract of his presentation. You can read it here.

"Server and storage virtualization solutions have dramatically transformed the data center by delivering significant operational savings through automation, capital savings through consolidation and hardware independence, and greater agility through on-demand and self-service approaches to provisioning. As significant as these gains have been, however, much of the potential for these solutions remains untapped. More to the point, these businesses are being held back, by antiquated network operations.

The solution to these challenges is to virtualize the network. Do for networking the same thing that has been done for computing and storage. In fact, network virtualization is conceptually very similar to server virtualization. Network virtualization provides a strong foundation for resolving the networking challenges keeping today’s organizations from realizing the full potential of the software defined data center.

VMware NSX®  is the network virtualization platform for the Software-Defined Data Center (SDDC), delivering the operational model of a virtual machine for entire networks. With NSX, network functions including switching, routing, and firewalling are embedded in the hypervisor and distributed across the environment. This effectively creates a “network hypervisor” that acts as a platform for virtual networks and services. Similar to the operational model of virtual machines, virtual networks are programmatically provisioned and managed independently of underlying hardware. NSX reproduces the entire network model in software, enabling any network topology—from simple to complex multitier networks—to be created and provisioned in seconds. Users can create multiple virtual networks with diverse requirements, leveraging a combination of the services offered via NSX to build inherently more secure environments."
