A few weeks ago, we explained what a DRP is. We will now drop an eye on why it is important to have one.

A DRP or Disaster Recovery Plan is the only thing that stands between you and a financial or IT disaster. Such a disaster can appear under different forms: fire, floods, human mistakes, blackout, ... A lot of people would say that the probabilities it happens are low, but don’t be too sure...
No one is completely safe against problems in the IT environment.

Here are some reasons why you have to make a DRP for your company :

Money, money !

A disaster or a data loss could cost a lot of money to your company. The DRP can help you to minimize this loss as well as the inconvenience it may cause to your business. The cost will thus be limited.

Reputation/Reliability

A disaster could ruin your reputation and the trust in your company. We are sure you don’t want it to happen...

You can’t predict everything

Whether it is a human error or a fire in the building next to yours, you can’t predict what could happen. The crane that is working on a building site next to your company could fall and cause a disaster you don’t want to imagine.

Sleep peacefully

In case of disaster, no one could blame you of carelessness if you had a DRP. In addition, you have the insurance that if something happens, you are safe if you had built the ideal DRP.
